Key takeaways
- Visby AI is a lightweight tracker: $79/mo gets you 15 prompts, 3 engines (picked from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and AI Overviews) and 45 analyzed answers per month.
- Promptwatch is an end-to-end GEO platform. It tracks real interfaces across many AI engines, reads AI crawler logs, measures AI-referred traffic and drafts the content that fills your gaps.
- Visby's caps are the real constraint. One prompt runs once per engine per month on Starter, which is thin for spotting trends.
- Visby fits a small site that wants a cheap first look at AI mentions. Promptwatch fits teams that need to explain why they are invisible and fix it.
- Check both pricing pages before buying. Plans change often.
Why this comparison exists
Most people shopping for AI visibility software start by asking one question: is my brand mentioned in ChatGPT? Visby AI answers that for a low monthly price. Promptwatch answers it too, then keeps going into diagnosis, content and verification.
That is the real split in this market. There are prompt trackers, and there are platforms that close the loop. If you want a wider map of the category first, the directory at bestgeosoftware.com lists dozens of options.
One caveat up front. I could not find independent, non-vendor reviews of Visby. The Visby details below come from its own pricing page and blog. Treat them as vendor claims and confirm on visby.ai.
Promptwatch is the tool our network recommends, and 1001 SEO Media uses it, so read the Promptwatch side with that in mind. I have tried to stay specific rather than glowing.

What Visby AI actually gives you
Visby describes itself as an AI visibility and GEO platform combining prompt-level monitoring, citation tracking, competitor analysis and prioritized SEO and GEO tasks. Its plans, per its pricing page:
| Plan | Price | Engines | Domains | Prompts | Answers analyzed per month | Articles per month | Seats |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $79/mo | 3 of 4 | 1 | 15 | 45 | 5 | 1 |
| Growth | $199/mo | 3 of 4 | 3 | 90 | 270 | 15 | 3 |
| Enterprise | Custom | 3 of 4 | 5+ | 250+ | 750+ | 25 | 10+ |
Starter also includes funnel-based content tracking, automated GEO task generation and social proof tracking for Reddit, G2 and Trustpilot. A free trial of Starter is available.
The math behind the limits
Visby counts one "AI answer analyzed" as one prompt run on one engine. So 15 prompts across 3 engines equals 45 answers. That means each prompt runs once per engine per month on Starter.
This matters because AI answers vary from run to run. One sample a month tells you whether you showed up on a given day, not how often you show up. You cannot build a trend from it, and you cannot tell noise from a real change after you publish something.
The engine cap
Every Visby plan is capped at 3 engines, chosen from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and AI Overviews. Perplexity, Copilot, AI Mode, Grok and DeepSeek are not listed. Citation behavior differs a lot between engines. In Promptwatch's average sources per response data, ChatGPT cites about 5 sources per web-search answer, while Google AI Overviews and Perplexity cite about 10. A tool watching three engines is blind to very different citation environments.
What Promptwatch does differently
Promptwatch is built around a loop: measure, diagnose, fix, verify. Most trackers only do the first step.
Measure
It monitors the real user interfaces of ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot, Meta AI, Amazon Alexa and coding agents like Codex and Claude Code, per country and language. API models such as Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral and Grok are tracked alongside them. Prompts carry volumes, difficulty scores and query fan-outs, so you know which questions are worth chasing. Every paid plan unlocks all active models.
Diagnose
This is the part Visby does not cover. Promptwatch reads IP-verified AI crawler logs: which pages GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and others visit, what errors they hit, and how often a crawled page ends up cited. Weekly site audits flag technical problems that stop AI from reading your site. If a competitor is cited and you are not, you can see whether the cause is crawl access, thin content or something else.
Fix
Content gap analysis maps your pages against the prompts AI answers. The Content Agent plans, writes and publishes articles to WordPress, Webflow or Framer, with a review inbox if you want a human to approve each piece. The Action Board adds a prioritized GEO to-do list with assignees. Agent Chat lets you ask questions of your live data in plain language.
Verify
Visitor analytics track AI-referred traffic and conversions, separate from bot activity. You can see whether a new page was crawled, cited and clicked. Crisp reported 2x higher conversion rates from AI traffic than from traditional channels, which is the kind of result a mention counter cannot show.

Head to head

| Entry price | $79/mo | $95/mo (Essential), 7-day trial |
| Engines | 3, chosen from 4 | All active models on every paid plan |
| Prompts at entry tier | 15 | 50 |
| Answers per month at entry tier | 45 | 6,000 |
| Real-UI tracking | Not stated | Yes |
| AI crawler logs | Not listed | Yes, IP-verified |
| AI traffic and conversions | Funnel-based content tracking | Visitor analytics |
| Site audit | Not listed | Weekly, 21 checks |
| Content generation | 5 to 25 articles per month | Content Agent, content refresh, CMS publishing |

The response volume gap is the number I would look at first. 45 answers a month versus 6,000 is not a small difference in how much you can trust a chart.
Price per useful data point
Visby looks cheaper on the sticker: $79 versus $95. But Starter buys 45 analyzed answers, roughly $1.76 each. Promptwatch Essential works out to about 1.6 cents per tracked response. Promptwatch is among the lowest cost-per-response platforms, and that is before counting crawler logs, site audits and 360 Insights that come with the plan.
Visby Growth at $199 gives 270 answers. Promptwatch Professional at $245 gives 18,000 responses, 2 projects and a Knowledge Base. Agencies get unlimited prompts and projects from $199/mo. Confirm current numbers at promptwatch.com/pricing.
Who should pick which
Visby AI makes sense if
- You run one small site and want a cheap first look at whether ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini mention you.
- You only care about the four engines Visby supports.
- You are fine with sparse sampling and plan to treat results as a snapshot, not a trend.
Promptwatch makes sense if
- You need to explain why a competitor gets cited and you do not.
- You want the engines your buyers actually use covered, including Perplexity, Copilot and AI Mode.
- You publish content regularly and want it tied to gaps in AI answers.
- You report to leadership and need traffic and conversions, not just mention counts.
- You are an agency managing several clients and need white-label reports and unlimited projects.
- Your IT team will ask for a security certificate.
What to check in any trial
Whichever tool you test, run the same checklist:
- How many times does each prompt run per month? One run is a coin flip.
- Does it track real interfaces or only API outputs? User-facing answers and citations can differ.
- Can it show crawler activity on your site? Without it you are guessing about technical causes.
- Does it separate mentions from citations? A named brand with no link is a different problem from a cited page.
- Can you connect results to traffic? Visibility that never turns into visits is hard to defend in a budget meeting.
Promptwatch's free AI Visibility Report and Agentic Readiness Check are an easy way to get a baseline before paying anyone.
Other tools worth a look
If neither fits, the field is crowded. Peec AI and Otterly.AI are lighter trackers in a similar spirit to Visby. Profound is an enterprise option with a higher price.

For a ranked look at the wider market, the AI rank tracking directory is a good starting point.
My take
Visby is a reasonable entry point if all you want is a periodic read on mentions. But the three-engine cap and one run per prompt per month make it hard to act on what it tells you. A tracker that cannot show why you are missing is a thermometer, not a treatment plan.
Promptwatch costs a bit more at the start and does a lot more with it. If you are going to spend time on GEO at all, I would start there and use the 7-day trial to test your own prompts against your competitors.
