Wellows vs CrowdReply vs ReddGrow: Tools for Earning Citations Through Outreach and Reddit (2026)

Three tools, three different ways to earn AI citations: Wellows for outreach on missed mentions, CrowdReply for paid placements, ReddGrow for drafting your own Reddit presence. Here is how they differ, what they cost, and where Reddit still pays off in 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Wellows is a citation tracker with outreach workflows (from $29/month). CrowdReply sells paid placements on Reddit and 40,000+ vetted sites. ReddGrow helps you draft comments and build your own Reddit presence ($99/month and up).
  • They are not direct substitutes. Two of them track and one posts, and one of them works through your own accounts while the other works through someone else's.
  • Reddit's value changed in 2026. Promptwatch Data shows ChatGPT's Reddit citation share collapsing, while Google AI Overviews and Perplexity still cite it.
  • Check the engine you care about before spending on Reddit. If your buyers live in ChatGPT, the money is probably better spent on your own pages and third-party listicles.
  • Paid, persona-based posting carries real account and ToS risk. Read that section before you buy.

What problem are you actually solving?

These three tools get lumped together because all of them say "citations" on the homepage. Underneath, they do different jobs.

One job is finding where AI engines already cite your competitors and then asking publishers for a mention. Another is paying someone to put your message into a thread or onto a site AI already trusts. The third is joining conversations yourself, with software doing the research and the first draft.

The Devta comparison of Reddit tools makes a similar point, splitting the category into monitoring tools, managed posting services and presence-building agents. That framing is useful here. Wellows is closest to monitoring plus outreach, CrowdReply is a managed posting and placement service, and ReddGrow sits between monitoring and presence building, with a human reviewing every draft.

Wellows: find the gaps, then do outreach

Wellows is the most analytical of the three. It breaks AI visibility into mentions, citations and sentiment, then sorts opportunities into two buckets.

Explicit opportunities are topics where competitors get cited and you do not. Open one and you see suggested subtopics plus the competitor pages cited for each, which makes it a decent content brief. Implicit opportunities are the ones that matter for this guide: places where your brand was missed, along with the publishers you could contact about a mention.

That outreach angle is the real difference from the other two. You are asking publishers who already rank and get cited to include you, rather than manufacturing a thread.

What it costs

Wellows lists Basic at $29/month and Standard at $97/month, both with all five engines. Prompt volume draws on a shared monthly credit pool, so if you run several projects you need to watch usage. There is also a slight learning curve for newcomers.

The data worth borrowing

Wellows published an internal dataset of 531,889 questions (Jan to Jun 2026). Its numbers are the strongest argument for tracking more than one engine: 79.6% of website-and-question pairs were cited by exactly one of five engines, and only 0.31% by all five. Treat that as vendor research, but the direction is believable. A citation win in one engine tells you little about the others.

For AI-visibility-tool queries specifically, Wellows found reddit.com was the top cited domain at 4.85%, rising to 7.33% on Google AI Mode. Keep that in context. It is a category-specific snapshot from before the ChatGPT changes covered below.

CrowdReply: pay for placements

CrowdReply is the most direct about what it sells. You buy comments, threads and placements, and the work is done through what it describes as a network of platform-native accounts and editors using persona-based engagement.

Its pricing page lists three plans:

AI modelsChoose 2Choose 4All 7
Comment$10$8$7

Every plan includes daily AI search tracking, a marketplace of 40,000+ vetted sites for articles, link insertions and brand mentions (with a 12-month replacement policy), MCP and API access, and Slack and email alerts. Annual billing saves 20%, there is a 7-day free trial and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Older third-party reviews quote different prices, so ignore those and use the pricing page.

The part to think hard about

CrowdReply's backlink marketplace is the less risky half. Buying a placement on a vetted publisher is an ordinary sponsored-content decision. The Reddit side is different. Persona-based posting from established accounts is the kind of thing Reddit communities and moderators dislike, and I found no primary source on how Reddit's rules treat undisclosed paid commenting. Assume a ban or removal risk, and do not run it on a thread you cannot afford to lose.

Quora and Facebook engagement are listed as coming soon, so today it is Reddit plus the placement marketplace.

ReddGrow: draft and join, with a human in the loop

ReddGrow pitches itself as finding the Reddit threads that ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI cite, then helping you join them. Per its own comparison page, it adds AI visibility tracking, graduated karma warm-up, a six-step compliance checklist per draft, a Chrome extension and mandatory human review before posting.

Pricing from that page: Starter $99/month ($79 annual), Growth $199, Pro $399. That comparison is written by ReddGrow, so the claims about competitors deserve a second look. I could not verify its plan limits or whether it posts for you rather than only drafting, which are two questions to ask before a trial.

One naming trap: redditgrow.ai is a different product. A Reddit review post about RedditGrow is not about ReddGrow.

Why this model is safer

You post from your own account, in your voice, after reading the draft. It is slower than buying comments, but the account is yours and the history is genuine. If a thread gets scrutinized, you can stand behind what you wrote.

Does Reddit still earn citations?

This is where the whole decision changes, and most Reddit tool pages skip it.

According to Promptwatch Data on Reddit citations in ChatGPT, reddit.com held about 3.83% of ChatGPT citations from Jul 18 to Aug 7, 2026, then fell below 1% on Aug 14. The Aug 14 to 17 average was 0.52%. Promptwatch notes a data-collection issue can't be ruled out, so treat the size of the drop as provisional. Google AI Overviews declined more gradually, from about 2.37% to 2.10%, and AI Mode from 2.22% to 1.54%.

The social media citations report for Sep 28 to Oct 4, 2026 shows the split by engine:

EngineSocial platforms' share of citationsNotes
ChatGPT0.46%Reddit 0.09%, LinkedIn top at 0.3%
Google AI Overviews12.2%YouTube 4.28%, Reddit 2.15%
Perplexity2.7%LinkedIn and Reddit tie at 0.86%

So the honest read in late 2026: Reddit work pays off more for AI Overviews, AI Mode and Perplexity, and for ordinary Google results, than for ChatGPT. Promptwatch's own advice is not to count on Reddit threads to get you into ChatGPT anymore, and to put that effort into your own site and the listicles, guides and comparisons ChatGPT does cite.

The ChatGPT side shifts the value toward Wellows-style outreach and CrowdReply's site placements. Product pages are the most cited content type in ChatGPT at 22.4% of citations, per Promptwatch's content type report, followed by landing pages and listicles. A paid Reddit comment is not on that list.

Which one should you pick?

Choose Wellows if

You want to see where competitors are cited, find publishers who missed you, and run outreach yourself. It is the cheapest way in, and it is the least dependent on Reddit staying favorable.

Choose CrowdReply if

You have budget, you want results without staffing the work, and you accept the risk. Use its site placement marketplace over its Reddit posting if you are cautious. Run small tests first.

Choose ReddGrow if

Your buyers are in B2B SaaS communities, you can spend time reviewing drafts, and you care that the account is yours. Expect a slower ramp because of the warm-up.

Combine them sensibly

A workable stack for a small team: track with Wellows (or another tracker), do outreach to publishers it surfaces, and use ReddGrow only in the subreddits where your customers actually talk. Skip paid Reddit posting until you have seen what the first two produce.

Where a full visibility platform fits

None of these three shows you which AI crawlers hit your site, what traffic AI engines actually send, or whether a published fix worked. If you need that loop, Promptwatch tracks real ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode and Perplexity interfaces, and ties citations to crawler logs and visitor analytics.

More options are listed in the GEO software directory at bestgeosoftware.com. Also note GummySearch, a Reddit research tool, shut down in November 2025 after failing to reach a data licensing agreement with Reddit. Any Reddit-dependent tool runs on terms Reddit can change.

A practical way to test

  1. Pick 20 to 30 prompts your buyers really ask.
  2. Record which engines cite Reddit for those prompts today.
  3. If ChatGPT does not, drop Reddit tactics for ChatGPT and aim at the sources it does cite.
  4. Run one tool for 60 days with a single success metric, such as new citations on tracked prompts.
  5. Measure referral traffic, not only mentions.

The bottom line: Wellows is the safest starting point, ReddGrow is the cleanest way to build a real Reddit presence, and CrowdReply is the fastest and the riskiest. And with ChatGPT barely citing Reddit now, check which engine you are trying to win before you pay anyone to post.
